- Promotes professionalism and interacts with colleagues in a way
that promotes a cooperative working environment.
- Ensure specimens are obtained in accordance with laboratory
guidelines.
- Demonstrate proper communication skills to relate pertinent
data or information about the patient or laboratory sample to
appropriate care provider.
- Supports organizational priorities to maintain compliance with
regulatory and accreditation standards.
- Attains required competency and demonstrates the ability to
follow procedural directions and protocols.
- Able to prioritize and organize workload and assist other
coworkers to maintain productivity.
- Follows proper protocols for specimen packaging and specimen
transport.
- Responsible for specimen accessioning as assigned.
- Demonstrates proper infection control practices, proper patient
identification, performs proper prompt specimen transport.
- Performs proper drug screen collection and processing as
assigned.
- Answers laboratory department phone calls.
- Demonstrates ability to recognize emergent conditions and
reacts appropriately.
- Provides phlebotomy services in a professional and patient
centered manner.
- Engages in self-evaluation of practice and takes action to
improve knowledge and skills.
- Retains accountability for quality of care given to the
patient.
- Promotes service excellence and growth of the laboratory.
- May work with multiple departments within the laboratory or
across the hospital/health system.
- Performs arterial puncture as assigned.
- Demonstrates proper infection control practices, proper patient
identification, performs proper prompt specimen transport.
- Responsible for other duties as assigned.Qualifications
Job Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Basic computer skillsPreferred Job Requirements
- Completion of an accredited phlebotomy/medical assistant
program with clinicals or previous phlebotomy experience
- Experience working in the clinical setting
