• Job Details
• Provides technical assistance in the capacity of a surgical (scrub) technician in an operating room, labor and delivery, or other facility performing surgical procedures.
• Core responsibilities include: preparing the operating room, preparing sterile field, performing the surgical scrub, assisting in draping the patient, preserving and ensuring correct identification of operative specimens, obtaining and ensuring equipment is in working order, instrument manipulation to aid surgeon efficiency and avoid risks, observing surgery progress and providing additional items as needed, recognizing and correcting breaks in sterile technique, participating in counts with the circulating nurse, cleaning or sterilizing contaminated items, and cleaning operating areas.
• Assists in training of surgical technicians.
• If assigned to the Labor and Delivery unit, may be required to perform a variety of clerical and technical direct patient care activities.
  • Job Requirements
  • Knowledge of basic human anatomy and basic first-aid methods and practices.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge and skills for care appropriate to the age of the patient serviced.
  • Ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and to interpret the needed information for each patient's age-specific needs.
  • Skill in maintaining an effective working relationship with others.
